The Story Behind Our Whitening Soap Packaging
Updated: Aug 12, 2021
There’s always a reason, a story, behind whatever you do. I could say the same for every detail that went into “conceiving our first born,” HERstory S.V.R.'s Whitening Soap. Today, I’m going to take you on a journey behind its packaging. I assure you, there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Conceptualizing and designing the packaging of our whitening soap involved a lot of research combined with experience. Together with Twenties and Forties, we aimed for simplicity and truthfulness that will showcase what our product is all about. We understand that there are a lot of products in the market and, like them, we want to etch ours in this complicated world of cosmeceuticals. With that in mind, we want our product to actually work and deliver its purpose instantly with just one look. We want the packaging that can be easily understood by all.
Life is a continuous learning process. So, even if I have 10 years of experience in demonstrating skincare products and analyzing different brands, I still had to do my research, especially because designing a soap packaging from scratch is a completely different ballgame. I had to unlearn and relearn a lot of things, most especially key points in branding.
Scouting for actual soap packaging, I had to recreate each design that I bumped into to see how each one would look before we all decide the best one that suits our story. Yes, we considered the story even in our soap packaging, including the following:
• branding (colors and fonts);
• actual cuts of the box;
• positioning of logo and other texts;
• product description; and of course,
• adherence to government regulations.
Creating and molding is fun for me, probably because it was influenced by my childhood. I was a daddy’s girl and I used to lounge in my father’s home office. He was an architect and had his own construction business. Because of that, he stayed at home to design houses and furniture. When I was a kid, I enjoyed tinkering on his unique rulers, tables, papers, and pens. I was acquainted with the measurements in each unique design so it can be actualized perfectly with great quality. Those treasured memories were unfortunately short-lived since my father died when I was 17 due to lung cancer.
I may not have followed in my father’s footsteps (in architecture/design), but I was able to retain my interest in designing, measuring, and pens! Anyone who knows me could attest to that, but I’ll be telling that in a different entry as we might not end. Going back to our packaging, here’s what our blueprint looked like:
For proprietary purposes, the numbers on the illustration above were changed. To be honest, I am not an expert in Photoshop; the measurements were done in Canva.
To actualize the packaging, we were guided by professionals. Thanks to their expertise and patience, we were able to select our desired quality of paper, font, and printing specifications. The whole process was tedious, but we loved every moment of it and we are super proud of its outcome - and we hope you’ll love it, too!
Sincerely,
Beautiful journey! All the best to Team Herstory!
